For this exhibition, I have explored the dialogue that occurs when weavings meet other objects and materials to speak of the relationship between my mother and I.
Inherently, the interlocking structures of the warp (vertical supporting structure) and the weft (horizontal yarn) can create perfect tension. But what if that tension is purposely distorted? The weave can be too tight. Too loose. It can have gaps that reveal the material underneath (and it’s fissures and marks).
By wrapping, obscuring, completely covering, revealing, these weaving sculptures delve into how two individuals can try to ‘meet’ each other, yet often fall wide off the mark when energies do not resonate or we don’t see each other clearly. This mis-match is explored in this work. Annabel Fraser, 2025
